I will be Heading to HATCH1121 in about an hour and a half for the last day of IAMLAKEWORTH. It is bittersweet to be sure, but as my friend Jen pointed out it's not the end but just the beginning for this project. She is right, I will start shooting IAMLAKEWORTH 2 in a couple of weeks and I started a podcast to do interviews with the photo subjects. The project grows and continues to shine a good light on Lake Worth through the pictures and words of the folks who live work and play here.
I would be remiss if I did not take time to thank some people as we close the books on this first offering of IAMLAKEWORTH. First and always Wendy for being my rock, my sounding board and my best friend. None of what I do is possible without you right beside me. Emily, Susan and Jose at the CRA / Lake Worth Arts. You provided me a space and every encouragement possible to take this show from concept to reality. Pamela DePalma for all the social media help. I have to thank Mathews Brewery for providing beer at the opening. Common Grounds Coffee sponsored the interview series and provided the coffee part of 'Artists at the Gallery Getting Coffee'. Thanks to Blanche Williams for her support and mentorship and hosting duties in the photographer's roundtable. Thanks to my guests for the interview series Jerris 'Quick the Poet' Evans, Jen Jovan Walls, Shawn Moss, Adriano Ficarelli and Tom Johnson. All of you were so gracious with your time and support. it took a village or more correctly a city to make this show possible. Thank you to the people of Lake Worth who jumped at the chance to help a newcomer to the city feel welcome and do whatever this photographer asked to make this project Without all of you there would be no IAMLAKEWORTH.
As I mentioned above this was just the beginning. Going forward I will be shooting the second phase of the project with an improved system for getting subjects quotes. I will be contacting the people from the first series to sit down for a 10 minute interview that will serve two purposes It will be used for my weekly podcast and help with the articles that go with the pictures when it is time to publish the IAMLAKEWORTH book. there is lots more to do and I am very excited about the future of the project. I will also be applying for grants to help the ongoing work of the project so I will indeed be quite busy.
Tomorrow I will be taking down the show to make room for the next Show at HATCH1121. From the bottom of my heart thank you all! As long as I live I will always remember the scene at the opening with the HATCH1121 full of my Lake Worth friends and great jazz playing from the JAZZ on J Street Trio. I have a smile on my face just thinking about it.
